HalesowenAsbestos Removal

Guide

What happens on the day of an asbestos removal?

A well-run job is controlled and quiet. The contractor cordons the area, works wet, wraps everything and leaves the site clean. Here is the sequence, so there are no surprises.

Double-wrapped asbestos waste bags and black-wrapped sheets on a flatbed lorry

Before they arrive

You agree a date and access. Move vehicles and garden furniture away from the working area, and tell neighbours. The contractor may ask you to keep children and pets indoors.

Setting up

Barrier tape and warning signs go up. On a roof job the contractor sets up access, edge protection and a route for waste. Indoors, the room is sealed with polythene and a HEPA vacuum is set up.

The work

Operatives wear disposable coveralls, gloves and respirators. Materials are kept wet, removed with as little breakage as possible and placed straight into asbestos waste bags or sheeting.

Waste and clean-up

Waste is double-wrapped and labelled, loaded into a vehicle and taken to a permitted site by a registered carrier. The area is cleaned with a HEPA vacuum or wet wipes and checked.

Afterwards

You receive waste transfer paperwork and, where relevant, a clearance or completion record. If a new roof is part of the job, it is fitted while the scaffold is still up.
